“Out of solitude, connection is born. From the intimate springs the collective pact.”
Solitude is a universal experience, deep, and at times painful. It can enclose us, isolate us, and disconnect us. Yet it can also be a turning point: a space of introspection that opens outward to the other, to the collective. It is within this movement, intimate, fragile, and powerful, that solidarity is born.
This transition from solitude to solidarity is a process of transformation, both personal and social. It requires navigating zones of doubt and daring vulnerability in order to reach a finer understanding of oneself and others. It opens the way to empathy, connection, and shared commitment.
In Mighty Pact, I draw inspiration from the community celebrations I experienced, particularly in West Africa, from the raw fervor of KRUMP battles, the vibrant energy of concerts where bodies attune to one another, and spontaneous choruses where the group becomes a support system. In these spaces, I encountered an instinctive, spontaneous solidarity, free of artifice or judgment, a support embedded in movement itself, in shared rhythm.
My dance is shaped by hybridity, encounter, and contact between cultures and bodies. Through my experiences, I have come to realize how deeply a community can transform an individual, and how the collective can awaken the vital impulse, reignite joy, and allow us to carry on.
With this group piece, featuring six performers on stage, I seek to create a living microcosm: a territory of listening, support, echo, and resonance. A place where the act of dancing becomes a pact, a “mighty pact”, between oneself and others, between solitude and interconnectedness.
How can a solidary gesture, even a simple one, spark an intimate transformation? How can the presence of the other, their voice, their energy, breathe movement into us and through us?
This creation is an invitation to feel, collectively, the power of this wave of solidarity.
