Inspired by krump and its history, from its roots to its rise today, I see in this dance form a foundation shared with my own. This inner turmoil, this energy ready to explode, this fierce drive to belong, to keep going no matter what. And above all, a purpose in every movement, a total embodiment of expression.
I wish to plunge back into the raw essence of dance itself, a return to a deep, primal source, guided by the mantra “hold fast.” Repetition, relentlessness, the beliefs we instill, the tireless search for the right gesture: self-denial becomes essential to surpass oneself, to know one’s limits only to push them further.
Relentlessly seeking the climax of expressions in order to understand, embrace, and share them. How can relentlessness become positive, synonymous with perseverance and courage? Beyond the physical aspect, what moral and ethical values do we hold on to in order to endure? And what are we holding on to? Each other, life, our passions?
Continuing my focus on invoking hybridity, I want to instill a joyful curiosity about encountering difference. Even if we speak two different languages, we can move in the same direction. It is about turning the other into an ally, having one hand for oneself, and one hand for the other.
Driven by a virtuous energy, HOLD FAST will introduce a collective introspection surrounding our own inspirations, authenticity, and trust in potential allies as well as in our own capabilities.
HOLD FAST as an act of resilience.
