Inspired by krump and its history—from its origins to its current rise in popularity—I see in this dance a common root with my own. That inner turmoil, that energy ready to explode, that determination to be myself and keep going no matter what. And above all, meaning in the movement, total immersion in the expression.
I long to immerse myself once again in the very expression of dance, as a return to its raw and profound source, guided by the mantra “hold fast.” Repetition, relentless dedication, the beliefs we invest in it, the tireless pursuit of movement, and self-sacrifice are essential to pushing beyond our limits, understanding them, and pushing them further.
To strive relentlessly to find the pinnacle of expression—to understand it, embrace it, and share it. How can this relentless striving become positive and synonymous with perseverance and courage? Beyond a physical concept, what moral and ethical values do we hold dear that enable us to persevere? And persevere in what? In others, in life, in our passions?
Still within my artistic focus on exploring hybridity, I want to instill this joyful,
, and open-minded curiosity about encountering difference. Even if we speak two different languages, we can move in the same direction. It’s about making the other person an ally— having one hand for yourself and one hand for the other.
Through its uplifting energy, HOLD FAST will spark a collective reflection on our own sources of inspiration, authenticity, and trust in potential allies as well as in our own abilities.
HOLD FAST as an Act of Resilience

“Hello, Just a quick note to let you know how much everyone enjoyed the performance by Cie Ma'— both the students and the staff! Thank you for this wonderful artistic moment full of energy, sensitivity, and shared experience. I myself was moved and impressed by the technical mastery, focus, and creativity of this wonderful duo. Wishing them—and you—all the best; I look forward to continuing to work together. Thank you! Kareen”
"I just saw your choreography *Hold Fast* at the Geneva Dance Festival. Magnificent, powerful, fascinating, physical, intense, acrobatic, charismatic—a kind of trance that was so powerful. In short, I loved it so much, and I’ll be drawing on the energy you radiated and the consummate beauty of your movements for a long time to come. Thank you for this art form, which you did not neglect or cushion even though it was intended for a rather mainstream audience. Thank you again, and I’d really love to see another one of your performances. I love dance, the expression of bodies and faces. Perfection. I was there by chance. I’m 83 years old. Keep it up. THANK YOU. Danielle"
