Founded by Marion Alzieu, the Ma’ dance company is based in Chambéry, France. There, it develops and experiments with a dance language in constant dialogue with other art forms, cultures, styles, and environments. Hybridity is at the heart of its approach.
By drawing on current events and the richness of her experience, Marion uses dance to express a profound harmony within ourselves—an alchemy between ourselves and others—through both stage productions and site-specific works. Marion enjoys challenging herself in new contexts to explore the concepts of adaptation and the impermanence of her dance, and to connect with diverse audiences.
She also develops cultural initiatives directly linked to her work, engaging a wide range of participants (prisoners, residents of nursing homes, middle and high school students, women’s groups, people with disabilities, and others).
The company has performed its plays in France, Europe, the Middle East, and West Africa.
Marion was an associate artist at the Dôme Théâtre in Albertville from 2021 to 2023.
The Ma’ Company is supported by the Savoie Department and the City of Chambéry.

After high school, she studied at the Centre James Carlès in Toulouse and then at the Coline professional training program in Istres.
Upon completing her training, she worked with choreographers Emmanuel Gat, Jasmin Vardimon, Salia Sanou, Hervé Chaussard, Chiara Taviani, Serge Aimé Coulibaly, and Amala Dianor.
In 2014, she created her first solo piece, “Ceci n’est pas une femme blanche,” and, at the same time, founded the Ma’ dance company. Her solo toured Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for nearly nine years and received several awards at various international competitions.
In 2018, she was invited to choreograph the opening parade for the Lyon Dance Biennale, on behalf of the city of Villeurbanne, in collaboration with Burkinabé choreographer Sigue Sayouba.
In 2019, her third piece, the duet “W, ” premiered, featuring Franco-Burkinabé musician Michael Avron, a composer with whom Marion has been collaborating since 2012.
Marion earned her DE (Diplôme d’État) in contemporary dance instruction in 2020 from the CND in Lyon, which enabled her to establish herself as an instructor in professional training programs and cultural initiatives for a wide range of audiences.
For two seasons, from 2021 to 2023, the Dôme Théâtre in Albertville invited her to serve as an associate artist. This provided her with the opportunity to create her first group piece , “Si c’est une fille,” in 2022. She also expanded her artistic practice into new and diverse fields by creating a museum-based performance titled “UNE” and a performance for mountain environments titled “AlttaÏ.”
In 2024, she created the piece “Hold Fast,” which highlights her interest in KRUMP, a dance style that has inspired her for several years .

I imagine movement as swirls of precise sounds and images, and choreography as drawings, graphic and aesthetic nuances. Thus, just as in painting, to create dance is to express a profound harmony within ourselves—an alchemy between us and our environment, punctuated by time-tested qualities. By working with the body through multidimensional movement that is at once physical, explosive, subtle, precise, and unique, I seek within this concrete medium a balance of tensions among all these elements—all the textures, the softness and the strength, the dynamics—to strive toward aesthetic clarity.
Within this context, my artistic vision finds its path. I feel compelled to explore our contemporary worlds and our actions and reactions to the forces that shape them. The impermanence of society and the various economic, social, and spiritual crises evoke for me images of individuals navigating the ebb and flow of their lives. The role and status of women particularly resonate with me and hold my interest. I see a revolution unfolding in our era—a surge of interest in the feminine that I find deeply inspiring. In response to the various economic, social, spiritual, and societal crises of recent years, our societies are evolving rapidly. This raises several questions: What do we need to survive these changes? What are the conditions for finding harmony? How can we maintain our own identity and roots amid these changes? How can we stay connected to our physical bodies and our beliefs?
With each new creation, I set a new constraint for myself—what I like to call “my challenge” (a new collaboration, a new medium, a new cultural influence, a new field…). By sticking to this “fusion,” I step outside my comfort zone and thereby rediscover sources of creativity.
As an artist, I believe our forms of expression are essential for becoming aware of our worlds and reexamining them every day. All the more so in the immaterial and virtual worlds in which we live; expressing ourselves through the physical body and its movements is a commitment in and of itself.
